Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrive in Quito – City Tour
Today you arrive in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, which lies at 2.800 m above sea level. We pick you up from the airport and take you into the Swissotel in the modern centre of the city. After a short break you will set off to explore the colonial centre of Quito, visit Independence Plaza flanked by the Cathedral, the Presidential Palace, the Municipal Building and the Archbishop’s Palace. Continue to the Church of San Francisco, one of the greatest religious buildings of the New World. Its impressive façade and atrium lead to its gild interior, a Baroque influence by Moorish style, with the winged Virgin of Quito at its main altar. From the Panecillo hill in the South of the old town, where the high monument of the Virgen of Quito stands at with 43m, you have an impressing prospect. You have wonderful views over the red clay tile roves of the old part of town, the skyline of Quito in the North, as well as the surrounding Andean cordilleras range with its outstanding snow-covered mountain giants. Day 02: Otavalo – Hacienda Pinsaqui
After breakfast at the hotel you travel north along the Panamerican Highway through astonishing mountain scenery and visit of the Otavalo Indian Market. Year after year lots of travelers visit this market due to the quality of the handicrafts that are made here. It is necessary to emphasize that the people who take part of the market have an Andean origin, and with it the cultural legacy of a tradition. Through the centuries the indigenous of Otavalo have converted their handmade abilities into a kind of art. Then you will drive to the Hacienda Pinsaqui which is known due to its architectonical beauty and its historical antecedent because in here stayed for some days the hero Simon Bolívar. In the afternoon you can do a horseback riding tour in the surroundings of the hacienda. In the evening you will attend one of the most typical and traditional activities: “Vaca loca”. It consists on set fire to a pyrotechnical castle that according with the rhythm of the band attracts the attention of all the participants and invites them to dance. At the end of the day you will share an unforgettable dinner in the hacienda. Overnight at the hacienda Pinsaqui. B/L/D

Day 03: Hacienda Pinsaqui - Papallacta
In the morning you continue your journey to Papallacta. This village is situated at 3.700m altitude in the midst of an evergreen Páramo landscape. The area is renowned for its hot springs. When you have reached the pass at 4.000 m you will get off the bus and start your hike to your hotel Termas de Papallacta. This trek will lead you through the Paramo vegetation and in about 3-4 hours you will reach the hotel. The rest of the day is for relaxation in the scenic pools and if you can spot the ice giant Antisana (5.758m). Overnight in the hotel Thermas de Papallacta. B/L/D

Day 04: Hacienda Porvenir – Chagras – Hacienda La Cienega
Next day, after breakfast, you will continue your tour to the south of the country through the Volcano Avenue. The big Cotopaxi volcano will lead to the Hacienda El Porvenir, also you will have a sight at Pasochoa, Rumiñahui and Illinizas depending on the weather. You will go through the little village of Machachi, an agricultural center, populated by kind, hard working and calm people. Finally you will arrive to the Hacienda El Porvenir located at 3.600m in a privileged valley surrounded by four volcanoes one of them the Cotopaxi. The house has a particular building style, its materials, colors and systems have been used since hundreds of years ago, keeping in them the spirit and essence of the Andean buildings. Stables, saddle room and farmyards give to this place an authentic touch of a productive Hacienda of the Ecuadorian Andes. Upon arrival chagras with delicious canelazos and cheese empanadas will be waiting for you and then you will continue to the main farmyard (20 minutes far from the hacienda’s house). In the farmyard the chagras will be ready to receive the bulls that will be in the starting line. Chagras are the Andean cowboys, people who have grown working on the land, with horses, and with cattle in the moorlands of the zone. This day some chagras will compete for being the best cowboy, testing their abilities with a leading ox, trying to make the horses dance, roping in the cattle, etc. In the farmyard you will drink free canelazos. When you return to hacienda you will eat lunch, enjoying the traditional music played by an Andean folklore group. In the afternoon you will travel along the Rumiñahui slopes through the Cotopaxi National Park until reaching the 300-year old Hacienda La Cienega. B/L/D

Day 05: Hacienda La Cienega - Baños – Hacienda Leito
In the morning you will walk from the hacienda to a nearby flower plantation and see the wide fields of flowers and enjoy the smell of thousands of roses. Afterwards you continue the journey south along the famous “avenue of the volcanoes”, named by the explorer Alexander von Humboldt. Passing the towns of Latacunga, Salcedo and Ambato you will reach Baños. You continue driving on to the east through the waterfalls Avenue that follows the Rio Pastaza on its way through the valley of the same name. In the village Rio Verde besides the river of the same name you will stop in order to visit the well-known waterfall El Pailon del Diablo. Then you return to the west and reach the countryside village of Patate and a few kilometres outside the village is the Hacienda Leito directly at the edge of the Llanganatis national park. Dinner and accommodation at the Hacienda Leito. B/L/D

Day 06: Valley of Patate - Quito
After breakfast a small hike leads you around the Hacienda and through the surrounding cultivation areas and the paste lands of the Patate valley to another flower farm, where you can admire the colours and the smell of the fields of flowers. Then you return to Quito. Overnight at the Swissotel. B/-/-

Day 07: Mitad del Mundo – Mindo – Resort & Spa Arasha
In the morning you drive from Quito 25 km northward to Mitad del Mundo (literally middle of the world) where the Equatorial Line Monument is located. The monument reminds the French-Spanish expedition from 1763-1744, which, under the leadership of Charles de la Condamine, determined the position of the equator. Here you can stand with one foot on the Northern and with the other one on the Southern hemisphere. You will visit the nearby Museo de Sol where you will get to know a lot about the culture and the knowledge of the Incas. Then this tour will lead you to Mindo which is famous for its biodiversity especially all the different bird species. Here you will stay at the Resort & Spa Arasha. With its ecologically sensitive bungalows, ARASHÁ offers a glimpse at the richness and tranquillity of this most fragile region combined with the finest in tropical comfort. B/L/D

Day 08: Workshops & Discovering the Cloud Forest
In the morning you will do a jewellery workshop where you can create your own earrings, rings etc which takes one hour. Afterwards you will go on a hike through the cloud forest until midday. Then you return to the hotel in order to have lunch. After lunch you will have some free time to relax in the Spa Area and in the afternoon you will have a chocolate workshop which rewarding you with a delicious chocolate fondue that you have made from natural cacao seeds. Overnight at the Resort & Spa Arasha. B/L/D

Day 09: Return to Quito
The morning is at your own disposal. You can enjoy another Spa Treatment or hike through the cloud forest. Then you return to Quito. In the evening you will have a farewell dinner at the Swissotel. Overnight at the Swissotel. B/-/D

Day 10: international flight
According to your flight time you will be taken to the airport in order to catch your international flight. B
